Sweden: Gluten Free Breakfasts

One thing I truly loved about our trip to Sweden was the gluten free breakfasts in our hotels.

I’d emailed the hotels in advance to see if they could offer gluten free breakfasts. Yes, came the reply, just ask your waitress.

So I did.

On the first day I got this:

On the second day I got this:

On the third day I got this:

Much as I love an omelette when I stay in hotels (why do they taste so good when someone else makes them?!), it was great to eat these gluten free treats. I absolutely loved the cinnamon buns and the cinnamon swirly things. The waitress told me the flat round bread was a type of Swedish tea cake. They were so tasty with jam, a cross between a muffin and sweet roll. Each day I took the extra items I couldn’t eat back to the room for later. Well, you wouldn’t want to waste such gluten free gorgeousness, would you?

On the 4th day we had travelled by train to the southern Swedish town of Lund in preparation to fly back from Copenhagen. I got these gluten free rolls:

Slightly less exciting than the gluten free spread I enjoyed in Stockholm but nonetheless impressive the hotel was able to offer them at all.

This just goes to prove the old adage: If you don’t ask, you don’t get (at least in Sweden)!
